Swagway X1 Test & Review
We had pretty high expectations going into this review because of all the hype the Swagway X1 has received so far. Seeing it on TV, it doesn’t look much different than the MonoRover R2. But then again, a lot of these self balancing scooters have very similar looks because let’s be honest here, they’re all coming out of the same manufacturing areas in China. However, with that being said, some do certainly outperform others so it’s clear that some of those Chinese manufacturers are putting more effort into their product than others.
The Swagway X1 only needed a single hour for a full charge – the fastest we’ve seen to date. That’s definitely nice if you’re crunched for time and trying to charge your hoverboard up a little before you leave the house. We went outside to the street and began riding. First thought: woah, this thing is fast. One of the fastest self balancing scooters we’ve ever ridden, in fact. And not just fast as in speed, fast turning as well. The dual electric motors and independent foot pad sensors we’re super reactive, responding to every small turn of the foot. Spinning on the Swagway X1 is not only effortless but also exciting, making for all sorts of fun.
We rode for around 5 straight hours before the battery died on us, totaling 11 miles on a single charge. That’s extremely impressive considering the single-hour charge time. We went took the Swagway X1 through the usual ropes, testing it on every terrain from road to dirt to grass. It passed each of those tests rather easily, but where it surprisingly excelled was riding up hills. Unlike a lot of other models which slowed or lost all power, the Swagway X1 maintained nearly full speed when climbing hills, riding up driveways, etc.
The thick plastic body of the Swagway X1 is solid and durable. If it’s your first time riding one of these, it’ll feel shaky at first, but once you get the hang of it the Swagway X1 is a very stable scooter. Because of the shiny gloss finish and the low profile of hoverboards, the plastic shell does scratch easily. Every self balancing scooter suffers from this easy-scratching though, so nothing to worry about. The scooter itself will still function just fine, but physically you can see some marks. You can prevent this with a quick strip of electrical tape or grip tape across the sides of the hoverboard’s body.
- High-quality build with very durable body
- One of the fastest and most powerful hoverboards on the market
- Highly responsive foot pad sensors provide quick rotation and turns
- Very short charge time and long-lasting battery means a lot of ride time on one charge
- Plastic body gets scratched somewhat easily when riding
- May take a little longer to learn to ride for beginners because of power and responsiveness
- No Bluetooth speakers available
Overall, the Swagway X1 definitely lived up to our expectations as a high-quality self balancing scooter, and has earned its place as the golden child of the hoverboard industry. It was fast, nimble, powerful, and excelled in a lot of areas where other scooters do not. We absolutely recommend it.
